Monograms!Trials, Cut, Print!

Right after the tutorials. I started cutting copying and cutting the monograms. Here are the first few trials.

Results!

This one doesnt work because the H isnt showing up.

This doesnt

This doesnt work because the H doesnt show up as well

I went home and tried again. And YEAH! succeed to make both of the letters show up.

The actual stencil and test print!

So how did I actually came up with this Monogram? During the presentation day. Ms Lisa showed us examples of monograms, there are a couple that I liked. It takes the idea of perspective and develop it into a monogram design. Thats where the idea of my monogram came from.

Monograms!-Brief and 1st Tutorial

After we had our paper cut out installation presentation. Ms Lisa briefed us on our next individual assignment! Monograms. This one is as exciting as the other projects. We were given nearly 2 weeks to prepare out sketches, at least 10.

We went for a trip on that week and I sketched some while on the trip and the week after.

Experimenting with initials as capital letters

Experimenting with initials in lower caps. For the lower cap monogram, most of it I tried combining my initials together, D and H. Most of the sketches are expected by most people, the reason why I gave up on it.

Ms. Lisa liked 1 from the capital letter page and 1 from the lower cap page. She preferred the one capital letters because it is more unexpected as a design. From there onwards I tried developing ways to print it.

Group assignment- The Showdown and little bit of progress.

At last it is the last day of work for our first group project. Most of the things went through as planned. We were proud of ourselves that we actually came up with an awesome display with just white papers. Without further a-do I present the.

What I've learnt?

This is one of the biggest installation that us, as a class put up together. I've learnt that in takes more than 1 or 2 "brains" to make a great output better. Even better, it opens up my mind that any materials can turn out very, very nice if used properly.

Group Assignment- The Discussion and Progress 2

Second meeting!

In this time in class every other group was ask to consult and talk with us about how they want their signage to look like.

Whack-A-Mole- The first one to have a talk with us. They came up with a sketch of what their signage will look like. It is a Mole holding the sign of their game. (yeah..moleception..)

Pacman- Since we want to keep it as original as possible we used the original Pacman title.

It looks like this minus the neon plus the papers

Tetris- Tetris group came to us without a sketch but with an idea that is then turn into a typefont. They told us that they wanted a font build up from diamond shapes. So this is what we came up and agreed to. How I made this was, I construct a simple diamond, duplicate them and arrange them. Simple but took quite some time to make it look good.

Mario- For Mario, we also want to as much as posssible make it look like a 'mario' type font. This is what we came up with. Fun Fact! The Mario signage is the first to finish.
.
Space Hockey- Space hockey they came up with a sketch, and let us choose their font. We researched and agreed on this font. (their initial plan didnt go as expected though).

Checkers- Last but not the least! Checkers. Since their display will be on the floor, we want to make it stand and visible from the eye level clearly. Again, we research and agreed on a font.

Group assignment 1

First group assignment!(an exiting one)

This group assignment is actually more like a whole class assignment. We were ask to plan on a big installation display referring to shop window display. Since our paper cut out skills were sharp enough, ms Lisa wants this to be a whole paper cut out design. We came up with several ideas, themes and concept, including Superheroes, Seasonal installation. We consulted ms Lisa on which idea is the best. Ms. Lisa picked on the Old School Arcade theme. So basically we will reconstruct an arcade from the 80s. There is a catch though, everything as in EVERYTHING must be cut out from a white piece of paper. This arcade will contain popular games from nintendo in the 80s. Mario of course came up first as it is the mascot of nintendo. Tetris and Pacman followed up. Zuliana was ask to come up with the layout and space.

We are then separated into groups. I volunteered myself into the signage group, which basically is in charge of cutting out the titles and the front door sign.

My day ends here. Next time!
